Pins and Boxes is an automatic layout system for Adobe After Effects.

In this tutorial you learn how to use the new Position Controls of Pins & Boxes 1.1. Position controls allow you to move a layer by an amount relative to its own size. So instead of “move 100 pixels to the left” you can say “move 50% of your own width to the left” or “move 100% of your own height + 20px upwards”. This is very useful, if you want texts to appear or disappear behind matte layers, for example. Since the layers always only move exactly as much as needed, the easing feels exactly the same, no matter how the text - and hence the size - of the text layer changes. Position Control is mostly useful for text layers, but also works with other layer types.
